This video demonstrates how to convert delimited text point cloud data (.xyz file) to the ASPRS LiDAR Data Exchange Format (.las).
The steps below show how to generate a workspace which reads from an XYZ text file and writes this point cloud data to the LAS format.For file based point cloud formats a destination feature type in FME represents a file and the destination dataset is a directory.Note that different point cloud formats may store values using different data types and though FME tries to maintain precision as much as possible some precision can be lost.In the example below data is being translated from a text file which may have any level of precision into LAS format which stores values as integers with a scale and offset.Keep in mind that FME treats a point cloud as a single feature.
