When setting up Notifications in FME Server, everywhere that it's necessary to enter email account credentials such as for SMTP and IMAP publications, provide a 'Send Test Email' or equivalent button to prove that you've added the account correctly before you go any further and spend ages troubleshooting only to find out you miskeyed a password. Also have an option to show password so that you can see what you've typed is correct before hiding the password again.

With FME Server 2016.0 there is an automatic validation performed when the Subscription or Publication is saved. We opted to not add a separate test button as we felt that doing the validation at the same time as the save was sufficient.Give it a try and let us know how it works for you.
@aaronkoningBut the completed solution does not actually send a test email.
I would like this option to go in the PythonEmailer too.I used that transformer in a workspace and needed to revise the workspace a few times, because I mistyped the credentials.
Thanks for commenting. The original request to "prove that you've added the account correctly" is handled by the validation in 2016.0.If you want to send a test email, then the Test topic functionality can be used. There you can can send an email with default settings or override the settings.
The PythonEmailer is a separate piece of functionality.I would recommend creating a separate Idea for that.
