If your system uses a proxy that requires a PAC (proxy auto-config) file, you may see errors like the following when attempting to use the ArcGIS Online Reader or Writer within FME:
"ArcGIS Online Feature Service Reader: Could not connect to server.Check that you are connected to the internet and that no firewall is blocking outbound connections."
The ArcGIS Online format within FME currently does not support connecting through a proxy that makes use of a PAC file.It is unable to interpret the file,so is unable to locate the correct proxy server to use to make the connection to ArcGIS Online.
This issue has been resolved in FME 2017.0.Please upgrade to FME 2017.0 or newer make use of this update.
You can work around this by hardcoding the path to the proxy server on the system. To do that, open the pac file and copy the proxy server address from inside. Then, inside the LAN Settings dialog (in control panel > internet properties > connections),uncheck the Use automatic configuration script option and then check 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' and paste the address inside the parameter there. Then restart FME Workbench and try the connection again.
Unfortunatley for us this workaround can't work as these settings are controlled in our network via group policy,so they get overwritten every 90mins.So right now we process data using FME to a 'staging' file geodatabase and use Python to republish all of our services each night!I am praying for a 'cure'.
@mapnutThanks for your feedback! The solution will ultimately come when PR #51336 is resolved, hopefully for FME 2017.
