Hi Chris,

Thanks for the prompt response, and apologies for my belated reply as we have been on shutdown over the holiday period.

I'm going to struggle to upload the workspace as there are a number of readers involved which link to confidential personal datasets which would be difficult to replicate.

I initially set this up and tested writing into a blank excel workbook using a template file, which seemed to work OK, but the final version needs to append rows into an existing workbook - this also contains manually applied formatting, comments etc.added by end users in some of the existing rows, so I can only really append data at the bottom of the existing file rather than re-writing all of the data.

My initial thought was whether the writer was treating the first row pasted as though it were a header row, with different formatting, but nothing in the writer settings appears to match this.I've attached two grabs of the writer settings, but I'm not using the writer (or any other transformers) to apply any formatting at all to the inserted rows, just the formatting existing in the source excel file.

It isn't a killer, as it can soon be rectified with a format paint in excel, it's just irritating me that I can't figure out the cause.

thanks for the suggestion - already tried that, it seems to be happening to the first row pasted, regardless of where this is written to within the excel worksheet.

@stevekjsince your post mentions "having identified the location to start writing".

Have you tried starting to write from a different row, where formatting has been applied to see if the formatting appears correctly?

just my two cents!

happy fme-ing :-)

Hi@stevekj,

It's odd that the formatting is not being applied to the first row.If you are able can you upload the workspace so we can have a closer look at what might be going on?Alternatively, if you would prefer, you cansubmit a casewith some sample data so our support team can take a closer look into this.

Alternatively, one suggestion would be touse an Excel template fileto help with the formatting.
