Symptom
Non-English file names in a zip file are scrambled when unzipped.
Cause
When a file is zipped in a non-English version of Windows 7 or Windows 8 using the native Windows file compression,the file is not zipped using UTF-8 encoding.This causes a filename scrambling issue when trying to use FME to unzip the file on a different machine in a different locale.This issue is due to an external encoding issue not related to FME,as the file will still be scrambled when trying to unzip it using 7-Zip or Winrar.
Resolution
Due to library limitations,this cannot be fixed in FME.A workaround to this issue is to zip the file on either MacOS,Linux or Windows 10.

When using several python installations on the same server,they usually don't use windows python path environment variables.How ever,FME cannot start the python module without these (error messages about not being able to find libraries,as you can imagine)
Is there a good way to define unique environment variables (python home,python path) for fme in a config file ?
I want to update Windows with the latest Security Patches but I want to make sure this won't change the behaviour of FME Desktop or FME Server.Is there anything that I should be aware of before applying the latest patches?

I'm having trouble using connections to SQL Server since upgrading FME server to 2017.I'd like to use windows authentication,and got this working on 2016.1 by changing the account that one of the FME services ran as (using a service account),and giving that service account access to my database.I've tried this in 2017 and it doesn't seem to work - it stops various parts of FME Server from working properly
Also I can't seem to find any documentation for FME Server 2017.Is there any?

I have been using a workbench for months which writes to a file geodatabase using the 'Esri Geodatabase (File Geodb ArcObjects)' writer.I am using FME 2016.1.3.1 64-bit (I was using a previous version of FME 2016.1 and was hoping that an update to this most recent version might solve my issue) on a computer where ArcGIS 10.4.1 with background geoprocessing and ArcGIS Pro 1.3 is installed.Coincidence or not,since the latest updates for Windows the workbench is not working anymore.In the image below you can see which updates have been installed.
On my computer runs Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1.
The error I get in FME is:
Unable to perform any licensing related tasks.This is a 64-bit version of FME which requires a 64-bit version of ArcGIS Server.Or download and install a 32 bit version of FME.Refer to this this article http://fme.ly/qua for more details
Following the link in the error message I read that I need ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Desktop background processing,but that is already installed and working.I can still add a 'Esri Geodatabase (File Geodb ArcObjects)' writer.This writer is not greyed out.
Any help on solving this problem is welcome.

Yesterday,I manually started a long running task (at 09 AM),and let it run thru the night.
This morning it crashed with a Win32 error.
What made me wonder was,that when I looking into the job's log,the process crashed almost exactly after 24 hours to the minute.This made me wonder whether it experienced some sort of 24 hour timeout ?
The log contained information about what it was doing when it crashed,so I setup a small workspace to test that.It worked without hickups.
My main workspace contains a looping custom transformer if that makes a difference.But I've previously had it running perfectly with other data sets.
Has anyone experienced something similar?Or is this just a very strange coincidence ?

I have created schedules / tasks in Windows Task Scheduler and specified for them to 'Run whether user is logged on or not'.They run without issue in FME Workbench,or if I set the schedule / task to 'Run only when user is logged on'.What's going on here?
I looked at the workspace log and it contains errors connecting to the database similar to below,but I have verified that my credentials are correct:
