Hi all,
we are company that interested in using FME 亚搏在线娱乐平台products.Main issue that we are blocked in current process is DEM generation. We compare results with Civil 3D and failed to tune FME workbench to get comparable quality. As I understood FME has only 2 settings for DEM interpolation: planar and constant.Planar gives us better results, but still interpolation doesn't seem good enough. It is not accurate.Ive attache some synthetic file that we use for quality assurance. And results from FME and Autocad Civil3D.Another question is what should be best input format for such operation, our pipeline set to work with 3d edges, but may be TIN would give better quality?May be anyone solved this task in the past to move process of DEM conversion of TIN from Civil3D to FME?
Here is file that I am working with and results:files.Basically I dont understand why FME give so big difference in elevations and why it is not symmetrical for pyramids.ver-planar-st0.fmw
Hi!
I am at the moment struggling with reading Civil3D Files(created in Civil 3D 2017/older).I end up with a lot of strange looking Chambers/Structures & most of the Pipes end up as lines.
Please see Pictures & attached Example Filetest-network.dwg.
The Designer in this case i using a Plugin called "Naviate",which is mostly used in Sweden(I think). These Pipe Networks are also modeled with a huge radius(Which is a bit uncommon I believe). Therefore I thought this could be the source of the problem, and tried creating test networks in a "plain" Civil 3D,to check if it´s due to the Designer/plugins/etc.However I end up with the same result.
------
-Any known bugs?
-Possible to get a test Workspace + test File?
-Any guidance on the Topic would be vary helpful.
------
I attended an inspiring presentation by Dale, showing a neat 亚搏在线workflow to handle the Civil 3D Files & the object.Note sure if this was in the 2019.1 version, but as I understood, this should also be possible in the 2018.0(?).
From "FME World Tour in Stockholm 2018".One beautiful Civil 3D Model.
What I end up with.A lot of strange looking objects.
Regards
/Daniel
Right now the Autodesk Civil 3D reader in FME 2018 doesn't support Assembly and Subassembly entities:
AutoCAD Reader: Entity type of 'AeccDbAssembly' found, but not supported.Skipping entity
AutoCAD Reader: Entity type of 'AeccDbSubassembly' found, but not supported.Skipping entity
Working with infra-BIM projects we often encounter these entities in Civil 3D data.
Does anyone know if it's possible to write with multiple DWG templates.I've tried making a published parameter and defining the template fil as AutoCadSource but it seems it only applies the first one.
I need each corresponding template to be the original file that I'm reading in because they're all different and have different block names within them.
Thanks!

Hi,
Can it really be true that I can't update block attributes in a dwg file that already contains minus signs because I can't write minus signs in the attribute names of the writer?
For example; If I have an attribute called "BLA-BLA",it automatically converts it to "BLA_BLA",which means the attribute in the file won't be updated in the file since it exists as "BLA-BLA".
Is there a way around this?
Thanks!
/Jacob
Within AutoCAD / Civil3D it is possible to add metadata on block definitions, not being attributes.Somehow I cannot access these metadata fields in FME.Does any one have a solution for that?
Figure 1.Blocks with attributes, this information is accessible within FME.
Figure 2.Metadata information of selected block shown in Figure 1.
I have tried enabling user defined properties and XDATA,but somehow I cannot acces the metadata.
I am using FME2017.1.1.
The final goal is to write these metadata properties into a new dwg.I know I can add these as attribute properties to the block definition, but that is not what the user wants as its final result.
Added you'll find the example DWG.sonderingen-en-boringen-bestaand.dwg
Hi,
I'm trying to write a landXML file for import in Civil3D.I have used the template from an old article that writes the metadata.I can get out a file that contains the geometry and the metadata but it won't load in Civil 3D.
I have no idea how to get it to work and I have never found anyone that got it to work either in real life or on the internet. Why is documentation so scarce? It seems most people even from 亚搏在线Safe only provides half answers on any of the prior threads on this issue.
Thanks!

Is it possible to convert a surface to 3d pts, lines or polygons
background: I've been given a surface from Civil3D and wrote it to an esri filegdb multipatch feature class using workbench, however you cannot use a multipatch with the surface tools in esri (contour, difference etc.) so i am attempting to recreate the autocad surface as an esri TIN.we don't have access to the masspoints or breaklines that originally generated the civil3d surface
Hello all.I am attempting to validate the use of this noble cause called FME.While appreciating your time I submit the following:
A need has arisen to retrieve the PNEZD (point#,northing, easting, elevation, description) and all of the attributes of each cogo point in a Civil 3D drawing. We can have up to 17 attributes for each point. Is this do-able?If so we could automate the extraction of thousands of points from numerous drawings and life would be swell.
Reading Civil 3D property sets with FME.

Is it possible to read the Property Sets from Autodesk Civil 3D with the current FME Desktop?
I only found this topic while searching.

If not I will create a new Idea for this.
FME is currently unable to read Civil3D surfaces directly from the Civil3D dwg file.I have posted my workaroundHEREbut it is not perfect and requires too much pre-processing before you can read in FME.Also, you would have to remember to repeat those steps every time the source surface changes.I've also experimented with a workspace to derive the boundaries from the LandXML file, instead of one extracted in Civil3D,then trim the surface to those boundaries. But it only works if a boundary was input in Civil3D,still not perfect and still requires a LandXML file be created after every surface change.
This is a new feature in civil 3D allowing you to attach any data template to all objects and entities in civil3D.Not only alignments,corridors,surfaces...but all plain Autocad Entities as well.
Are there any plans to support reading and writing these in the futur?
When converting Autodesk Civil 3D data (specifically pipes and structure for creating water, storm and sanitary features in shape or geodatabase) with FME,I am not getting any invert elevations. The newly converted features have some AutoCAD attributes in HEX (assumed) format, but non of them make sense as invert elevation when converted to decimal. The export LandXML file from the same Civil 3D does have those invert elevation that could be read as part of structure description,so it is there, just can't get it out into GIS.I really wanted to avoid the process of manual entry of those invert elevations every time I need to add new developments to the infrastructure features.Any help on that?
The Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D Reader allows FME to read Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D format datasets. The supported Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D versions and supported geometries are outlined here.
We aim to support the latest version of AutoCAD applications. For best performance be sure that your version of FME is newer or the same as your version of AutoCAD.For example,FME 2018 supports reading Civil 3D DWG files created by Civil 3D 2018 or earlier software.
Here is a list of the different forms of Civil 3D data files, and what can be done with them.
The recommendation is to ensure that the Civil 3D data that is to be worked with,is of a version that is native to the application which created it.Otherwise, data may appear to be in the correct version, but in fact it may have undergone a conversion process which has removed some desired data.
For FME 2018 reading from Civil 3D Version 2018 or earlier,or for FME 2017 reading from Civil 3D Version 2017 or earlier Civil 3D DWG files etc:
