This article applies to FME Server 2012 only and was previously titled "Use a real time dataset as a source dataset". Please seethis articlefor updated information.
The following web services are able to receive source dataset for workspace transformation via HTTP GET and POST:
Note: At time of writing, only simple text based content is supported using this mechanism which posts directly to the service. It is possible to POST binary source data to a workspace using the Data Upload Service via the Web UI or your own custom HTML form. Please see the article here for instructions on using this other mechanism:

When running a workspace on FME Server it is possible to override the source dataset by setting the opt_geturl parameter when you run the workspace. The effect of this is that you can pass in real time datasets as the input to the translation.

In this scenario your workspace would be configured to read a KML file.
If a web service request is sent by POST and it contains a non-empty request body, the body content will be written into a temporary file, which will be used as the source dataset. For example, you can send a POST request to the Data Streaming with coordinates as text in the request body, and let the service run a workspace consuming the spatial data (e.g.computing a buffer), then send it back.In some sense this is mimicking the WPS service!
Temporary File LocationData content received via both GET and POST are stored in the temporary folder specified by the following property (in service's properties file), for example: #REQUEST_DATA_DIR - The directory which stores request data from HTTP POST body REQUEST_DATA_DIR=D:/apps/FMEServer/RequestData If the path is not specified, the service will automatically pick the system's default temporary directory. However, these files are not being purged right now, and we should clean them up periodically. Also we should move this directory to a central mount point, such that distributed FME Engines can access them.

When you right-click any link in the browser, it prompts the context menu with a new item called 'View with FME Server', which will invoke the Data Streaming service using the above URL pattern, with a GENERIC -> PDF2D workspace. This workspace translates the original data to PDF2D format, then it's viewable in your browser!
